Dura-Bond facilities are strategically located to enable pipe to be processed with minimal out-of-route freight expenses. These plants are ideally situated in close proximity to pipe manufacturers, mainline rail service, river transportation and major interstate highways.
McKeesport, Pennsylvania
Dura-Bond Coating maintains a 30,000 square foot "state of the art" fusion bond epoxy plant in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. This modern facility sits adjacent to U.S. Steels ERW pipe mill and can apply various powder coatings to pipe ranging in size from 3 to 36 in diameter and in lengths up to 80.
Powercrete® abrasion resistant overcoating is available from this plant for application over FBE on line pipe that is to be pulled through horizontally drilled holes where maximum protection is required. The McKeesport facility also applies X-Tec extruded polyethylene to pipe ranging from 2" to 20" in diameter and in lengths up to 65. X-Tec is the primary coating required by Northeastern utility companies.
Steelton, Pennsylvania Coating Facility
Dura-Bond's large diameter pipe coating facility is located on site in Steelton, Pennsylvania. This facility applies fusion bond epoxy on pipe produced at our adjacent mill from 16" diameter through 42" and lengths up to 80. In addition to external coating, we also offer internal flow efficiency linings as well as Abrasion Resistant Overcoatings for severe service.
The Steelton facility utilizes an induction coil for pipe pre-heating in conjunction with 3 modern natural gas fired main heating ovens to insure a deep heating of the steel as opposed to a quick heating of the outside surface. This is critical for proper cure of the coating especially when thick dual layer fusion bond epoxy is applied. The powder application system consists of 20 hi-flow powder guns and dual powder filtration units that filter both the virgin and reclaimed material. After coating is completed, product moves via conveyors directly to the pipe loading area for shipment or yard storage.
We also have the ability to externally paint pipe with anti-corrosive coatings, apply tape wrap as well as apply epoxy lining for applications such as Jet fuel transfer and potable water.
